DriveWise.caCanada!

Anything with words 'driver' and 'improve' in it sounds immediately good to me. Here in Toronto (no offense to anyone living in this great city, I'm sure you all are exemplary drivers) drivers are insane. Seriously. Especially with winter weather. I lost count of how many times during a big snow storm when you can't see the road, the traffic lights, or the car in front of you I've seen a tiny eggshell of a car, the kind that gets a dent if you lean on it too hard zoom by at insane speeds even for normal weather. Therefore, any kind of refresher and improvement seminar (especially a free one) is the best idea in my book. DriveWise.ca is one of those, targeted towards seniors.

"CARP has teamed up with the Ontario Provincial Police and Road Watch Canada to bring Drive Wise, a driver refresher seminar for seniors.

With CARP's sponsorship, this informative and enlightening 45-minute presentation - which is delivered by an OPP officer - will improve the safety of senior drivers and help preserve their right to drive. There is no cost to arrange a Drive Wise seminar for your area!

For the past 20 months, communities in Ontario have hosted the Drive Wise education seminar. This 1-hour presentation provides valuable safe-driving strategies for Canadians 50 years of age and older. Studies indicate that as Canadians age they face an increasing number of challenges behind the wheel.

In fact, while seniors on a per capita basis are not involved in more accidents than other age groups, once involved in a traffic mishap they are at greater risk of serious injury or death. Many older drivers are also concerned about the increased scrutiny of licensing authorities, incidents of aggressive driving on the road, and rising insurance rates."

I think we could all benefit from DriveWise.ca. So far it's only for Canadians 50 years of age and older, but let's hope some day all of us can benefit from an OPP-delivered driver refresher seminar.
